Alex Menzies Appointed Chief Creative Officer of betty

Channel 4 Deputy Head of Features Alex Menzies is joining betty as its Chief Creative Officer, a role that will see the continued creative growth of the company under All3Media’s ownership.

Taking up the position in August, Menzies will build on betty’s legacy of ground-breaking features with bold new formats, bringing with him a wealth of wider experience on factual entertainment and reality series such as Married at First Sight and I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here.

 Menzies joins from Channel 4 where he is Deputy Head of Features, ordering and co-commissioning successful and distinctive primetime formats across the linear channel and its digital channel More4 including  Superfoods: The Real Story, The Shut-Ins, Paul Merton’s Secret Stations, Walks with my Dog, Tried & Tasted: The Ultimate Shopping List and Married at First Sight.  Joining in 2013 as Features Commissioning Editor he has also managed a broad slate of returning series, including cherished brands Grand Designs and Food Unwrapped.

Previously Menzies was at Channel 5 where he launched long-running hit Cowboy Builders and oversaw the successful re-launch of The Hotel Inspector with Alex Polizzi before being named Head of Features, leaving in 2008 to become a factual formats and features commissioning executive at the BBC, where his credits included Delia Through The Decades, Rick Stein’s Far Eastern Odyssey and Grow Your Own Drugs.

As part of the betty plans, the company will move to County Hall, working with Layla Smith and her team at Objective Media Group. The addition of the betty slate of factual formats complements the OMG labels, Second Star, Panda and Objective Fiction who specialise in factual entertainment and reality, entertainment and scripted programming.  CEO Layla Smith said, “Alex is a true creative and one who has real passion for the shows that betty excels at.
